Academy of European Law: European Media Law

(6th – 7th June, 2019)

Conference of the Academy of European Law is held every year in Brussels and focuses on the latest developments in the area of European media law. This year´s meeting has focused on the new Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), its transposition and the new role for the national regulatory authorities.

This event was organized by the Academy of European Law, in cooperation with the Institute of European Media Law. The aim of the conference was to look back at the last year and consequently to present and to discuss all relevant legislative initiatives and court decisions in the area of media law.

The director of The Office of The Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission, Ľuboš Kukliš, who is currently the chairman of The ERGA (The European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services) also spoke during the conference regarding the significant changes which are introduced by the new AVMDS including from a perspective of the position of the national regulatory authorities.

In his speech, he focused on the legal changes in the new AVMSD, presented his vision and answered the questions about the future of media regulation. Additional topics that were discussed: fight against „fake news“, support of investigative journalism, European Union legislative initiatives in the area of data use in the media sector, copyright law and telecommunications and its impact on media field etc.
